The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna), has announced that 5,816 students will be awarded degrees and diplomas at its forthcoming 34th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled to hold on February 1.
The university made this known during a pre-convocation media briefing addressed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, who described the ceremony as a major academic milestone and a reflection of sustained progress in teaching, research and institutional development.
According to the official statistics released by the university, 111 graduands emerged with First Class honours across various undergraduate programmes. The degree classification further shows that 1,525 students earned Second Class Upper Division, while 2,134 students graduated with Second Class Lower Division degrees. In addition, 631 graduands obtained Third Class degrees, and 37 students completed their programmes with Pass degrees.
At the postgraduate level, the university recorded significant academic output. The breakdown indicates that 73 candidates were awarded Postgraduate Diploma certificates, 633 students successfully completed Master’s degree programmes, while 124 candidates were conferred with the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.
Professor Kuta disclosed that all academic programmes of the university currently enjoy full accreditation status, attributing this to consistent quality assurance measures, regular curriculum review and improved staffing levels. He added that the institution has continued to strengthen its digital and e-learning infrastructure to enhance academic delivery.
The Vice-Chancellor further revealed that FUT Minna is expanding into medical and health-related disciplines, with new programmes designed to address manpower gaps in the health sector. He explained that the university is also intensifying efforts in research, innovation and industry collaboration, having secured notable research grants to support impactful projects.
While highlighting achievements, the Vice-Chancellor acknowledged challenges confronting the institution, particularly in the areas of student accommodation, transportation and infrastructural development, assuring that the university management is engaging relevant stakeholders to implement sustainable solutions.
The 34th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled for February 1, is expected to attract dignitaries from government, academia and the private sector, as well as parents, guardians and other stakeholders from across the country.
As FUT Minna prepares to formally induct 5,816 graduands into its alumni community, the university reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence, innovation and the production of graduates equipped to compete effectively in a rapidly evolving global environment.
