The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has published the results of the candidates taking the second series of the 2021 West African High School Examinations (WASSCE) in Nigeria.
The head of the Council’s national office, Patrick Areghan, said this at a press conference announcing the results of candidates participating in WASSCE 2021 (private).
The exam was held from 12 November 2021 to Wednesday 22 December 2021 with a total of 51,444 candidates from 52,973 registered candidates.

Mr Areghan said: “25,008 applicants, representing 48.61 per cent, have earned upward credit in at least five (5) subjects, including English and Mathematics, of which 12,272 are male candidates while 12,736 are female candidates.
He added that there was an encouraging 8.79 percent increase in the most recent review.
Meanwhile, Areghan said that the absence of a National Identification Number (NIN) would not prevent applicants from taking the exam in May/June 2021.
In the additional details of the results, HNO mentions there are 131 candidates with various levels of special needs. He said their findings had also been processed and released along with other candidates.
He said, of the total candidates who took the exam, 49,584 candidates or 96.38 percent had been fully processed and disclosed, while for 1,860 candidates or 3.62 percent, some of the subjects were still there because “there was an error”. the candidates are working on.”

Speaking of the presentations of the candidates, Mr. Areghan said: “32,637 candidates, representing 63.44 percent, received points and above in at least five (5) subjects (with or without English and/or Maths), of which 15,832 were Male and 16,805 were Female.
He said the results of 3,968 candidates, or 7.71 percent of the total number of candidates who passed the exam, were delayed due to various reports of exam abuse cases.
“The case is being investigated and the investigative report submitted in a timely manner to the relevant Council Commission for a decision. Any decisions will then be communicated to the candidate concerned,” said Areghan.
