Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, has expelled no fewer than 32 students from its academic programmes over various acts of indiscipline, including involvement in sexually explicit video misconduct, examination fraud, drug-related activities and other behaviours considered contrary to the institution’s code of conduct.
The disclosure was made by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, during the university’s 19th matriculation ceremony, where 936 newly admitted students were formally welcomed into the institution.
Addressing the matriculating students, Prof. Ayorinde stated that the university maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward any behaviour capable of bringing the institution into disrepute. He stressed that Achievers University places high premium on discipline, moral standards and academic integrity, and would not hesitate to sanction students who violate established rules.
According to him, more than 15 students were expelled for offences related to the making and circulation of sexually explicit videos that were linked to the name of the university. He warned students against the misuse of social media and digital devices, noting that careless online behaviour could permanently damage their academic records and future careers.
The Pro-Chancellor cited instances where students recorded inappropriate videos while identifying themselves with the university, describing such actions as unacceptable and disgraceful. He cautioned that any student found engaging in similar conduct would face immediate dismissal.
Prof. Ayorinde also revealed that 17 students were expelled in 2025 for attempting to obtain examination clearance without paying their required school fees, describing the act as fraudulent and a direct violation of institutional regulations.
In another example of firm disciplinary action, he recounted how a final-year student who was close to graduation was dismissed after making a statement interpreted as inviting extremist violence to the university environment. The university, he said, refunded the student’s fees before effecting the dismissal.
He further disclosed that the university had expelled three students for involvement in hard drug dealings, reiterating the institution’s zero tolerance for drug abuse, bullying, physical fighting, alcohol misuse, sexual harassment and other forms of misconduct.
The Pro-Chancellor used the occasion to call on parents and guardians to take active responsibility in guiding their children and wards, noting that moral upbringing remains crucial to students’ success in higher institutions and in life generally.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Amos Aremu, reminded the new students that matriculation marks the beginning of a serious academic journey that demands discipline, focus and personal responsibility. He described the university environment as one designed to promote intellectual growth, character development and societal contribution.
Prof. Aremu warned the students to stay away from cultism, examination malpractice, cybercrime, drug abuse and sexual misconduct, emphasizing that such vices have no place in a reputable academic institution and could permanently derail their futures.
As part of the event, the matriculation lecture was delivered by Mrs. Ayobami Felix-Olaniyi on the theme “Your University, Your Network: Building Relationships and Opportunities.” She encouraged students to deliberately build meaningful relationships with peers, lecturers and professionals, noting that strong networks can significantly enhance academic success, mentorship opportunities and career advancement.
The ceremony served not only as a formal induction of new students into Achievers University but also as a firm reminder of the institution’s uncompromising stance on discipline and responsible conduct, both on campus and in digital spaces.
