In what is shaping up to be a decisive intervention, the Students’ Union Government (SUG), in collaboration with the Office of the Welfare Director, has concluded plans to halt the entry of all motorcycles (okada) into the school premises starting tomorrow at the front gate.
This action follows repeated allegations that commercial motorcyclists operating within the Gidan Kwano axis (GK) have refused to comply with the officially approved transportation fare of ₦200 from the school front gate to any faculty. According to student leadership sources, despite several warnings and engagements, some operators have continued to charge ₦300 — a move the Union describes as exploitative and unacceptable.
The SUG maintains that the ₦200 fare was agreed upon as the standard rate to protect students from arbitrary increases, particularly amid prevailing economic pressures. However, continued non-compliance has reportedly forced the Union to take a stronger stance.
As part of the enforcement measure, all motorcycles — both registered and unregistered — will be prevented from entering the school campus until further notice, except if operators comply with the approved fare structure.
Under the proposed arrangement, only tricycles (keke) and shuttle buses, including the larger long buses, will be permitted to convey students into the campus.
Students, especially those scheduled to write tests tomorrow, are strongly advised to take this development seriously. The restriction may affect movement into the school, potentially causing delays for those who rely solely on motorcycles for transportation.
The situation is expected to unfold at the school gate, and there is a strong possibility of heavy monitoring and enforcement by student leadership.
Students are therefore urged to:
Arrive early.
Stay informed and prepared.
Further updates are expected as events develop.
