Iranian authorities report a deadly strike on a girls’ elementary school in Minab, Hormozgan province, amid a broader wave of joint United States and Israeli military operations against Iran launched on 28 February 2026. The incident has become one of the most harrowing events in the rapidly escalating conflict.
According to Iranian state and semi‑official news agencies, the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ primary school was hit by a missile while pupils were present. Local prosecutor Ebrahim Taheri told state media that the death toll from the school attack has risen to at least 148 people, with around 95 wounded. Iranian officials said most victims were schoolchildren, and that teachers, staff, and parents were also among the dead and injured. Rescue operations continue as debris is cleared and emergency teams search for survivors.
Earlier reports from Iranian outlets noted varying fatality figures, with state media citing counts between 57 and 85 schoolgirls killed as the numbers climbed throughout the day. Officials said dozens more were still trapped under the rubble as relief workers worked at the scene.
The attack on the school is part of a broader series of strikes carried out by U.S. and Israeli forces across multiple Iranian cities. Iranian authorities and the Red Crescent reported over 200 people killed and hundreds more injured in strikes on civilian and military targets across the country, although these figures have not been independently verified by international agencies.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the school strike as a “blatant crime,” urging the United Nations Security Council and the international community to intervene and protect civilians. Iranian leaders have vowed that these actions “will not go unanswered,” and Tehran has launched retaliatory missile strikes on U.S. bases and Israeli targets in the region, further intensifying tensions.
