Technology giant Apple has unveiled a new high-end monitor known as the Apple Studio Display XDR, expanding its lineup of professional displays designed for creative professionals, developers, and content creators who require top-tier visual performance.
The newly introduced display brings several major upgrades in brightness, refresh rate, and connectivity, positioning it as one of the most advanced monitors currently available for professional workflows within the Apple ecosystem.
Advanced 5K Retina XDR Screen
The Studio Display XDR features a 27-inch 5K Retina XDR display with a resolution of 5120 × 2880 pixels, delivering extremely sharp visuals and precise color accuracy for professional editing and design work.
Apple equipped the monitor with mini-LED backlighting technology, which uses thousands of tiny LEDs and more than 2,000 local dimming zones to produce deeper blacks, higher contrast ratios, and improved HDR performance.
The display can reach up to 1,000 nits of sustained brightness, while peak brightness can climb to 2,000 nits for HDR content, making it significantly brighter than many standard professional monitors.
Another standout feature is the 120Hz refresh rate with adaptive refresh technology, allowing the screen to dynamically adjust depending on the content being displayed. This helps deliver smoother motion when editing high-frame-rate videos, working with animations, or scrolling through demanding visual projects.
Built-In Camera and Studio-Quality Audio
Like many of Apple’s recent devices, the display includes a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with Center Stage technology, which automatically keeps users centered during video calls and virtual meetings.
The monitor also features a three-microphone array designed for clear voice capture, alongside a six-speaker sound system that supports spatial audio, enabling immersive audio playback and high-quality communication without the need for external speakers.
Thunderbolt 5 Connectivity and Power Delivery
Connectivity is another major highlight of the new display. The Studio Display XDR includes Thunderbolt 5 and USB-C ports, enabling fast data transfer and seamless connection with compatible Mac devices.
Through its Thunderbolt connection, the display can deliver up to 140 watts of power, allowing it to charge high-performance laptops such as the MacBook Pro while simultaneously functioning as an external monitor.
Pricing and Availability
Apple announced that the Studio Display XDR will start at $3,299, with an optional nano-texture glass upgrade available for users who need reduced glare in bright environments.
The company also introduced an updated version of its standard Apple Studio Display, which starts at $1,599 and includes the same camera and audio upgrades but maintains a 60Hz refresh rate.
Pre-orders for the displays have already opened, with official availability expected to begin later this month.
Apple Expands Its Professional Display Ecosystem
The introduction of the Studio Display XDR signals Apple’s continued investment in high-performance tools for professionals working in video production, graphic design, photography, and software development.
With improved brightness, advanced display technology, and faster connectivity, the new monitor further strengthens Apple’s lineup of premium hardware built to support demanding creative workflows.
