In a major update that brings relief to many prospective undergraduates, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has officially reopened its admission portal for the 2025/2026 academic session. This development follows the recent extension of the national admission exercise by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), a move that aims to accommodate additional applicants who may have missed earlier deadlines or are still processing admission requirements.
The announcement, signed by the Registrar, Kabiru Garba Aminu, confirmed that the university is now set to resume the admission procedure with specific schedules and new guidelines that all candidates must strictly adhere to.
ATBU Announces New Screening Date and Venue
ATBU has scheduled the physical screening exercise for eligible candidates between:
November 3 and November 10, 2025
The screening will take place at the NCC Building, Gubi Campus, located along the Ningi-Kano Road axis of Bauchi.
Candidates are strongly advised to arrive early, with all necessary documentation, and follow the screening instructions to avoid disqualification or delay in the process.
Who Is Eligible for the Screening?
The reopened portal is open to:
- Candidates who selected ATBU as their institution of first choice during UTME registration.
- Applicants who have successfully uploaded their O’level results on the JAMB CAPS portal.
- Candidates who have met the departmental cut-off mark as determined by the university.
Applicants who fall under these categories are required to check their admission status and proceed with the updated screening guidelines.
Opportunity to Change Course
One of the highlights of this reopening is the opportunity for eligible applicants to apply for a course change — but with important restrictions.
While ATBU has provided flexibility for course adjustments, this does not apply to certain high-demand and capacity-sensitive programs due to the limited number of available slots and high application pressure.
The following courses cannot be changed into at this time:
- Medicine (MBBS)
- Nursing Science
- Public Health
- Veterinary Medicine
- Architecture
- Quantity Surveying
- Civil Engineering
- Computer & Communications Engineering
- Mechatronics Engineering
- Biochemistry
- Microbiology
- Computer Science
Applicants seeking to switch into less competitive courses are encouraged to make realistic choices based on their UTME scores, O’level grades, and departmental admission requirements.
Documents Required for the Physical Screening
Candidates attending the screening exercise are expected to come with the following:
- Original and photocopies of O’level results
- JAMB result slip
- Birth certificate or sworn age declaration
- Local government/state of origin certificate
- Recent passport photographs
- Printed screening invitation slip/acknowledgment slip
All documents must be neatly arranged and presented professionally. Failure to provide complete documentation may affect a candidate’s admission chances.
Important Advisory to Candidates
- Candidates are advised to avoid third-party agents and carry out all admission procedures directly through the official ATBU platforms.
- All payments related to admission or screening should only be made through approved channels.
- Candidates are also reminded to follow ongoing updates to avoid missing any additional instructions or deadlines.
