BUA Cement Plc has significantly expanded its educational support initiative by awarding a total of ₦40 million in scholarships to 200 students across three northern states, marking one of the company’s most impactful interventions in the region’s academic community. The latest award represents a major upgrade in the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) portfolio and has been widely commended by beneficiaries, community leaders and education stakeholders.
The scholarship distribution covers students drawn from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States, in addition to a dedicated batch of beneficiaries from Wamakko Local Government Area, where the company’s cement plant is located. Each selected student received ₦200,000, a significant increase from the ₦100,000 previously offered under earlier editions of the scholarship. This upward review signals BUA Cement’s renewed commitment to strengthening human capital development within its host and neighbouring communities.
Speaking at the award ceremony, representatives of the company emphasised that education remains central to BUA Cement’s CSR strategy. The management reiterated that supporting students from host communities is not only an investment in the future of the region but also a strategic effort to complement government initiatives aimed at expanding access to quality education.
According to the company’s Director of Administration and Corporate Affairs, the scholarship is designed to ease the financial burdens faced by students pursuing tertiary education in the region. He urged beneficiaries to utilise the funds strictly for academic purposes such as tuition, textbooks, accommodation and other essential school-related expenses. He added that BUA Cement would continue to monitor the academic progress of recipients to ensure that the investment yields long-term benefits.
The selection of beneficiaries reflects a deliberate attempt to maintain balance and fairness across catchment areas. Fifty students were chosen from each of Kebbi and Zamfara States, another fifty from Sokoto, and an additional fifty from Wamakko LGA, which hosts the BUA Cement plant. Community leaders present at the event commended BUA Cement for expanding the scholarship scheme and doubling the award value.
