Final-Year KWASU Student Dies in Road Accident While Rushing to Write Exam

A final-year student of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has died in a tragic road accident while rushing to sit for his examination, throwing the university community into mourning.

The deceased, Idris Aremu Agboluaje, a 400-level student of Business Education, reportedly lost his life after his vehicle was involved in a crash as he hurried back to the examination venue early Thursday morning.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that Agboluaje was denied entry into the examination hall because he could not present his student identity card. Determined to retrieve the card and return before the exam progressed too far, he reportedly drove at high speed toward the university gate. It was during this hurried attempt to return that the fatal accident occurred.

The tragic development has sparked emotional reactions across the department and among students who described the incident as heartbreaking and avoidable.

Reacting to the incident, the Association of Business Educators of Nigeria (ABEN), KWASU Malete Chapter, issued a statement expressing deep grief over the loss of one of its students.

The association stated:
“Our hearts go out to his parents, family members, friends and classmates during this difficult time. This is a painful blow to the Business Education Department and the entire academic community.”

The statement further emphasized solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for strength for those affected by the tragedy.

As of the time of filing this report, the management of Kwara State University had not released an official statement confirming the circumstances of the accident or providing further clarification on the events leading to the student’s death.

The incident has, however, ignited discussions among students and staff regarding examination entry procedures, identification requirements, and the pressures faced by students during critical academic assessments. Many within the university community believe that the tragedy underscores the need to balance examination protocols with student safety considerations.

Colleagues and classmates described Agboluaje as a dedicated student whose academic journey was abruptly cut short on the very day he was striving to complete another important milestone.

The loss has left a sombre mood on campus, with students calling for measures that will prevent similar occurrences in the future while ensuring that academic regulations do not inadvertently place students in risky situations.

Further updates are expected as the university authorities respond to the incident and as more details emerge.
