Fintiri Empowers 24,000 Schoolgirls with ₦960 Million Conditional Cash Grants in Adamawa

In a major move to boost girls’ education across the state, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has launched a Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme that will benefit 24,000 schoolgirls with a total of ₦960 million. The initiative, implemented in partnership with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), aims to reduce dropout rates, ease financial barriers to schooling, and create long-term opportunities for the girl-child.

The flag-off ceremony took place recently in Fufore Local Government Area, where Governor Fintiri explained that the programme is structured to ensure sustained educational engagement. According to him, each beneficiary will receive ₦40,000 in the first school term, followed by ₦10,000 each in the second and third terms, on the condition that they maintain at least 75 percent school attendance.

Governor Fintiri said, “This initiative is designed to boost access to education, reduce school dropout rates, and expand economic opportunities for the girl-child in Adamawa State. We are committed to ensuring that every girl has the chance to complete her education and reach her full potential.”

He added that the programme particularly targets vulnerable groups, including girls who have previously dropped out of school, married girls, and young mothers, encouraging them to re-enroll and continue their studies. “We want these girls to not only stay in school but also aspire to careers in medicine, engineering, and other specialised fields,” the governor emphasized.

Highlighting the state government’s ongoing support for students, Fintiri noted, “Our administration has continued to strengthen the education sector by consistently paying WAEC and NECO examination fees for students in public schools. This reduces the financial burden on families and ensures that education remains accessible to all.”

The programme is part of a broader strategy by the Adamawa State government to promote gender equality in education and empower girls to become productive contributors to the state’s socio-economic development. Officials from AGILE and local education authorities were present at the event, reaffirming their commitment to monitoring and supporting the programme’s implementation.

Governor Fintiri concluded by urging families, community leaders, and educators to support the initiative, stressing that the long-term success of the programme depends on collective effort. “Investing in the education of our girls is investing in the future of Adamawa State. Together, we can ensure that every girl has the opportunity to succeed,” he said.
