The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna) has officially announced the closure of the university for its year-end recess, giving staff and students a temporary break from academic activities as the festive season approaches.
The decision was communicated through an internal memorandum issued by the Office of the Registrar, informing the entire university community of management’s approval for the closure.
University to Close from December 18
According to the memo, the Vice-Chancellor approved the closure of the university with effect from Thursday, December 18, 2025. The move is aimed at enabling both staff and students to proceed on recess in an orderly and safe manner.
The announcement applies to all academic and non-academic activities, marking a full campus shutdown for the duration of the recess period.
Resumption Date Fixed for January 5, 2026
The memorandum further stated that the university will reopen on Monday, January 5, 2026, when normal academic activities are expected to resume.
Students and staff have therefore been advised to take note of the resumption date and make adequate arrangements to return to campus promptly to avoid disruptions when the new academic phase begins.
Management Directives on Campus Security
As part of measures to safeguard university property during the closure, management directed Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, and Heads of Units to ensure that all facilities under their control are properly secured before vacating the campus.
In addition, the Acting Chief Security Officer was formally instructed to ensure adequate security and protection of all university properties throughout the recess period. This step underscores management’s commitment to maintaining safety and preventing vandalism or loss while the campus remains closed.
Season’s Greetings to the University Community
Beyond administrative directives, the memo also conveyed a warm message from the university management. On behalf of the institution, members of the FUT Minna community were wished a peaceful, joyful, and safe festive season, alongside a prosperous New Year.
The message reflects the university’s recognition of the importance of rest, reflection, and family time for staff and students after months of academic and administrative activities.
What This Means for Students and Staff
The closure provides an opportunity for students to recharge ahead of the next academic phase, while staff members are expected to return refreshed and ready for continued service delivery in the new year. Students are advised to vacate hostels in line with university guidelines and ensure compliance with all exit instructions.
