The ceremony, held at the university’s main campus, brought together students, academic staff, parents, and dignitaries in a colorful celebration of scholarship and intellectual promise. With over 1,468 newly admitted postgraduate students officially matriculated, the event underscored FUTMINNA’s vital role in shaping the next generation of researchers, innovators, and technologists in Nigeria and beyond.

Vice Chancellor Reaffirms FUTMINNA’s Commitment to Research and Innovation

In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, commended the postgraduate students for choosing FUTMINNA as their institution of higher learning, emphasising that the university has continued to earn a distinguished reputation both nationally and internationally for its academic quality and innovative research outputs.

Professor Kuta highlighted that FUTMINNA, which began its academic journey 43 years ago with a single faculty, has grown tremendously to become a hub of science, technology, and innovation, now boasting 14 schools offering a wide array of undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

He attributed the university’s growth to a clear vision of advancing technology-driven education and research that aligns with Nigeria’s socio-economic and developmental goals.

“FUTMINNA is a university that has made remarkable progress and built a strong reputation over the years. We are proud of how far we have come and are even more optimistic about what lies ahead,” he stated.

Over 1,468 Students Matriculate from Nearly 3,000 Applicants

The Vice Chancellor revealed that a total of 1,468 postgraduate students were successfully admitted into the institution out of nearly 3,000 qualified applicants who applied for various postgraduate programs, including Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Master of Technology (M.Tech.), and Postgraduate Diploma (PGD).

He congratulated the matriculating students and reminded them of the rigorous academic standards required at the postgraduate level. According to him, a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50 is required for a student to progress and remain in good academic standing.

“At this level of study, excellence, discipline, and focus are non-negotiable. You are expected to take full responsibility for your learning and conduct yourselves as true ambassadors of this great institution,” he said.

Students Advised to Shun Social Vices and Unregistered Associations

Professor Kuta used the occasion to admonish new students to remain focused on their studies and avoid distractions that could hinder their academic performance. He warned against joining unregistered associations, engaging in social vices, or becoming involved in activities that could tarnish their reputation and that of the university.

He emphasised that FUTMINNA operates under strict academic and moral codes, and students are expected to uphold the institution’s values of integrity, diligence, and discipline.

“Your admission into this university is a privilege that comes with responsibilities. Use your time here wisely, conduct yourself with dignity, and make meaningful contributions to your field of study,” he added.

A Celebration of Growth, Excellence, and Legacy

The matriculation ceremony served not only as a formal welcome for the new postgraduate students but also as a reflection of FUTMINNA’s continued dedication to academic excellence, technological innovation, and research leadership.

Over the years, the institution has maintained its position as a centre of excellence in science, engineering, and technology education, producing graduates who contribute significantly to both the public and private sectors in Nigeria and internationally.

The Vice Chancellor reaffirmed the university’s readiness to provide a conducive learning and research environment, equipped with modern facilities, experienced faculty, and innovative research opportunities that empower students to excel academically and professionally.

“FUTMINNA remains committed to building scholars and innovators who will drive technological and economic transformation in Nigeria,” Professor Kuta declared.

The Journey Ahead for FUTMINNA Postgraduate Students

For the newly matriculated students, the journey marks a new chapter of academic discovery, research excellence, and intellectual advancement. Postgraduate education at FUTMINNA is not merely about obtaining degrees; it is about pushing the boundaries of knowledge and contributing solutions to national and global challenges.

The university continues to encourage collaborative research, interdisciplinary studies, and partnerships with industries, research bodies, and government agencies to ensure that its graduates remain globally competitive and professionally relevant.

Stakeholders Commend FUTMINNA’s Vision

Academic staff, invited guests, and family members present at the event commended the university’s management for maintaining high academic standards and fostering an environment that supports both learning and innovation. They described the matriculation as a testament to FUTMINNA’s resilience and dedication to its founding vision — to be a world-class university committed to technological education and applied research.
