A heated public spat has erupted between controversial activist and social commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM) and charity influencer King Michy, with accusations of incompetence, hidden sponsors, ego battles and a dramatic ₦50 million challenge now dominating online discourse.
The controversy began after King Michy openly criticised VDM’s style of activism and charity work, questioning both his integrity and transparency. In a strongly worded statement shared online, Michy argued that genuine integrity does not require constant public announcements.
“No one with integrity mounts a ring light daily to announce it,” she said, in what many interpreted as a direct swipe at VDM’s regular video updates about his philanthropic projects.
She further warned that if VDM “comes for her,” he would “go down,” escalating the tension between the two influencers.
Allegations of Spy, Funding and Performance Activism
Michy did not stop there. She alleged that VDM planted a spy at her restaurant — a claim that has not been independently verified. She also criticised what she described as excessive talking over tangible impact, contrasting her own achievements with his.
According to her, she renovated a school within six days and has personally funded her NGO without relying on donations in the way she claims VDM does. She challenged him to send her ₦50 million, insisting she would achieve more with the funds than he has in the past two years.
She also made bold financial claims, stating that her restaurant generates ₦1 million daily — a detail that quickly became a focal point of online debate.
Michy concluded that the absence of public scrutiny does not automatically mean VDM is doing well, suggesting that his supporters may be shielding him from accountability.
Jojo Enters the Fray
The situation intensified when VDM’s associate, Jojo, entered the conversation. Jojo dismissed Michy’s criticisms as jealousy, alleging that she was upset because VDM does not “rate” her despite what he described as previous attempts to associate closely with him.
Jojo characterised the dispute as driven by personal resentment rather than genuine concerns about charity accountability.
VDM Responds in 9-Minute Video
In response, VeryDarkMan released a nine-minute video addressing the allegations. He maintained that he has never attacked Michy and stated that he interacted with her only once — in February 2025 — when she publicly alleged that media personality Nedu Wazobia attempted to sleep with her.
VDM insisted he is not in competition with Michy and rejected claims of rivalry. However, he suggested her sudden criticism may be politically motivated.
According to him, the backlash began after he spoke against the “City Boy Movement” and condemned the attack on Peter Obi in Edo State. He alleged that her sponsors might be unhappy with his political commentary, implying external influence behind her statements.
He also responded directly to the ₦50 million challenge. In a surprising twist, VDM declared he would give Jojo ₦50 million — but with strict conditions. He said the funds must be used to build schools matching the quality of projects he has executed, “without excuses.”
Public Reaction: Loyalty vs Ego Clash
Supporters of VDM, popularly known as Ratels, have rallied behind him, rebuking Michy for questioning his track record. Others, however, see the unfolding drama as a clash of egos between two high-profile charity content creators who both operate heavily in the public eye.
