Ogun’s Best Primary School Teacher Drives Home Brand New Car After Emerging National Champion

Excellence in the classroom has earned a life-changing reward for a dedicated educator in Ogun State, as the state government honoured Mr. Solanke Francis Taiwo with a brand new car following his emergence as Nigeria’s Overall Best Primary School Teacher.

The presentation was made by Governor Dapo Abiodun at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, in a ceremony that underscored the administration’s commitment to rewarding merit and promoting excellence in the education sector. The event drew senior government officials, including top education administrators and members of the state executive council.

Mr. Solanke, who teaches at Ansar‑Ur‑Deen Main School I in Abeokuta, distinguished himself at the national level after emerging winner in the primary school category of the 2025/2026 National Teachers’ Awards. His recognition places him at the pinnacle of basic education teaching in the country, a feat widely regarded as both competitive and prestigious.

Governor Abiodun, while presenting the vehicle, described the award as a testament to the power of dedication, innovation, and commitment within the public education system. He reiterated that teachers remain the backbone of national development and must be celebrated when they demonstrate extraordinary impact in shaping young minds.

The governor further emphasized that Ogun State would continue to invest in policies and incentives that elevate teaching standards and encourage professional excellence. According to him, rewarding outstanding educators sends a clear signal that the state values competence and hard work.

Beyond the brand new car, the honour comes on the heels of earlier national recognition for Mr. Solanke. The Federal Government of Nigeria had previously awarded him a substantial cash prize during the National Teachers’ Summit in Abuja after he emerged overall winner at the federal level. In addition, the Ogun State Government complemented the national honour with the allocation of a two-bedroom bungalow, further cementing the significance of his achievement.

Education stakeholders have described the gesture as historic and morale-boosting, especially at a time when calls for improved welfare and motivation for teachers continue across the country. Observers note that public recognition of educators at this scale is capable of inspiring thousands of teachers nationwide to pursue excellence with renewed commitment.

For Mr. Solanke, the award represents not only personal success but also a validation of years of service, innovation in lesson delivery, and dedication to nurturing young pupils at the foundational stage of learning. Colleagues and pupils alike have praised his consistency, discipline, and passion for primary education.
