Super Eagles and Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has formally parted ways with South African Premier Division side Chippa United after four years with the club. The announcement was made by Chippa United in an official statement released on Thursday.
Chippa United confirmed that the 29-year-old shot-stopper submitted a formal request to leave the club, a move that came despite him having signed a three-year contract extension in 2024. After internal discussions, the club agreed to grant his release, bringing his spell with the Gqeberha-based outfit to an end. In their statement, the club expressed deep appreciation for his service, professionalism and contribution over his four-year stint.
Nwabali’s tenure at Chippa United was notable. He joined the team from Katsina United of the Nigeria Premier Football League and quickly solidified his place as the club’s number one goalkeeper. His leadership qualities were recognised when he was made captain. During his time in South Africa, he made more than 70 appearances and became a fan favourite due to his consistency and commanding presence between the posts.
In a heartfelt farewell message shared on his social media account, Nwabali thanked his teammates, coaches, supporters and the club’s chairman, describing his time at Chippa as “more than a family” and expressing gratitude for the memories and lessons shared throughout his journey.
With his contract terminated by mutual agreement, Nwabali is now officially a free agent and eligible to join a new club. As of now, neither the player nor Chippa United has confirmed his next destination, and the goalkeeper has remained silent on where he will continue his career. Transfer speculation links him with potential moves within the South African Premier Soccer League, as well as possible interest from clubs in Europe and the Middle East.
