Usmanu Danfodiyo University Warns Students Against “Standing Together” During Ramadan

Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUS) has issued a notice cautioning students against standing together in male–female pairs during the holy month of Ramadan.

In the circular dated February 20, 2026, the university’s Academic Branch stated that any boy and girl found “standing together” as a couple during Ramadan would face immediate action, including the arrangement of a nikah (Islamic marriage). The notice further advised students to respect the sanctity of the institution and avoid what it described as unnecessary closeness.

The memo also added that in the event of a violation, the concerned individuals would be responsible for organizing their own walima (marriage reception).

The warning has since sparked conversations among students and online observers, with many reacting to the strict tone and the implications of the directive.
