A Kaduna-based cleric has reportedly died after ingesting a bottle of Sniper insecticide, following days of intense personal distress linked to allegations circulated against him.
The deceased, described by residents as a prophet and pastor leading a small congregation in Kaduna State, was said to have been facing repeated accusations from his biological sister, who allegedly branded him a “fake pastor” amid rumours questioning his sexuality and claims of a leaked tape.
Community sources said tensions within the family had escalated in recent weeks, with the allegations reportedly spreading beyond private exchanges and into the wider community. Associates of the late cleric said he had appeared withdrawn and emotionally troubled in the days leading up to the incident.
He was discovered after reportedly consuming the substance. Efforts to save him were unsuccessful.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities in Kaduna State had yet to issue an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the incident. It remains unclear whether any formal complaint had been lodged over the alleged harassment or whether investigations are underway.
The incident has sparked conversations within the community about the impact of public shaming, family disputes, and unverified allegations on mental health, particularly among religious leaders who often operate under intense social scrutiny.
