Suspected armed robbers on Friday attacked a man in Minna, Niger State, and robbed him of more than ₦10 million after allegedly trailing him from a bank where he had earlier received payment from a client.
The incident occurred in the afternoon along Shiroro Road in Minna after the victim had completed a financial transaction at a commercial bank in the city. According to sources familiar with the incident, the criminals had been monitoring the man’s movement from the banking premises before launching the attack.
Eyewitnesses said the robbers followed the victim’s vehicle for some distance before overtaking him and forcing him to stop along the road. The assailants reportedly confronted him and quickly dispossessed him of a bag containing cash believed to be over ₦10 million.
During the robbery operation, the suspects also seized the victim’s car, a Toyota Camry, and fled the scene with it.
In a dramatic turn of events, the attackers abandoned the vehicle they used for the robbery, a Toyota Corolla, at the scene before escaping with the victim’s car and the cash.
Sources said the victim was able to recover one of the rifles used by the criminals during the incident, which was later handed over to security operatives.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that officers were immediately deployed to the area after receiving a distress report.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Wasiu Abiodun, said operatives from the Tudun-Wada Division responded swiftly to the scene of the robbery.
According to him, the police recovered the abandoned Toyota Corolla believed to have been used by the suspects and also took possession of the rifle recovered from the scene.
He explained that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further investigation while security operatives have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
The police spokesperson assured residents that efforts were underway to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen vehicle and money.
