Federal Government Girls Colleges (FGGCs) are Unity Schools operated by the Federal Government of Nigeria. They offer some of the best secondary education in the country at subsidised costs. What Is FGGC?
FGGC stands for Federal Government Girls College. These are federal government-funded boarding secondary schools exclusively for female students. They are part of the Unity Schools system managed by the Federal Ministry of Education. Examples include FGGC Bwari (Abuja), FGGC Owerri, FGGC Onitsha, FGGC Sagamu, FGGC Abuloma (Port Harcourt), and many others spread across all six geopolitical zones.
FGGC Admission Age Requirement
Candidates must be between 9 and 12 years old at the time of sitting the National Common Entrance Examination. Specifically, candidates must not be below 9 years or above 12 years as of the year of the examination. Age is verified with the birth certificate during the admission process, and falsification of age leads to disqualification.
Academic Requirements
Candidates must be in JSS 1 or Primary 6 at the time of registration, depending on the entry point offered. For the most common entry point (JSS 1 entry), candidates must have completed Primary 6 and hold a Primary School Leaving Certificate or the equivalent. Strong performance in Mathematics, English Language, Verbal Reasoning, and Quantitative Reasoning is required to succeed in the Common Entrance Examination.
How to Apply for FGGC Admission 2026
- Register for the National Common Entrance Examination through the NECO official portal (www.neco.gov.ng) or designated registration centres when the window opens.
- Pay the required examination registration fee (usually between ₦2,000 and ₦5,000).
- Select your preferred Federal Government Girls College(s) during registration.
- Collect your examination slip and prepare for the examination.
- Sit the National Common Entrance Examination on the scheduled date.
- If successful, you will be offered provisional admission and invited to submit supporting documents.

FGGC Subjects in the Common Entrance Examination
The National Common Entrance Examination covers: English Language, Mathematics, General Paper (which includes elements of Social Studies, Basic Science, and cultural knowledge), Verbal Aptitude, and Quantitative Aptitude. State Quota System
Each Unity School reserves admission slots for all 36 states of Nigeria plus the FCT. This means that even if a candidate from a less competitive state scores lower than a candidate from a more competitive state, they may still gain admission as part of their state’s quota. FGGC School Fees
FGGC school fees are heavily subsidised by the Federal Government and remain among the lowest in the country for boarding secondary education. In recent years, the annual fees range from ₦35,000 to ₦60,000, covering boarding, feeding, and tuition.
