The 2026 NECO internal examinations — both the BECE (for JSS3) and the SSCE (for SSS3) — have concluded. The waiting game for results has begun. Here’s where things stand and what you should be doing right now.
NECO SSCE 2026: Results Expected When?
The NECO Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for the 2026 June/July series ran through July. Results typically take 60 to 90 days to process and release after the last paper. Based on past patterns, NECO SSCE 2026 results are expected between September and October 2026. The official release will be announced on the NECO website (neco.gov.ng) first — that’s the only source you should trust.
NECO BECE 2026: Results Expected When?
The NECO Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for JSS3 students typically runs a few weeks ahead of the SSCE. BECE 2026 results are expected around August–September 2026. Schools are usually notified before results go public — check with your school’s exam officer first, then verify on the NECO portal.
How to Check NECO SSCE Results When They’re Out
Go to result.neco.gov.ng. You’ll need your examination number and a valid result checking token. Tokens are bought from licensed NECO dealers — not social media vendors or random agents. The current token price for NECO result checking is typically around ₦500–₦1,000. Enter your exam number and token on the portal, and your results will display subject by subject with your grade for each.
If the portal is slow or unresponsive, that usually means results have just dropped and thousands of people are checking simultaneously. Try again a few hours later or early in the morning — traffic is lighter then.
Understanding Your NECO Result
NECO grades each subject on a scale that runs from A (the best) to F (fail). Here’s what the grades mean for university admission:
A — Excellent (75% and above) — Credit pass
B — Very Good (65–74%) — Credit pass
C — Credit (50–64%) — Credit pass
D — Pass (45–49%) — NOT a credit, doesn’t count toward your five required credits
E — Pass (40–44%) — NOT a credit
F — Fail (below 40%)
For university admission in Nigeria, you need five credit passes (A, B, or C in NECO grading). English Language must be among them for almost every course.
What If Your Result Is Not Yet Out?
If your friends’ results are out and yours isn’t, a few things may be happening: your result might be “withheld” pending investigation; there may be a data entry issue with your school’s registration; or the portal may simply not have processed your record yet. First, confirm with your school that you were properly registered. If you were, contact NECO’s state office in your state with your examination number for clarification.
What If You Need Better Grades?
If your NECO SSCE 2026 result doesn’t give you the credits you need for your university course, you have options:
NECO GCE 2026: NECO GCE is the second-chance examination for private candidates. Registration typically opens September/October 2026, with exams running November/December. Results come out early the following year. Check neco.gov.ng for the official GCE schedule.
WAEC GCE 2026: WAEC’s second-sitting equivalent runs on a similar timeline. WAEC GCE results and NECO SSCE results can be combined (two-sitting rule) to meet admission requirements.
Resit next year: If you’re still in school or can re-enroll, writing the June/July NECO SSCE again in 2027 is another path. This is the longer route but sometimes the most thorough one.
NECO Results and University Admission
NECO results are accepted by JAMB and all accredited Nigerian universities on equal footing with WAEC results. When you go for university clearance, bring the original NECO statement of result — the printed document issued by NECO, not just a screenshot. Universities verify original documents during clearance, and photo copies or printed portal screenshots are not always accepted.
About the 2026 NECO Internal Examination
The NECO internal examinations are conducted at participating secondary schools across Nigeria. Unlike NECO GCE (private candidate), the internal SSCE is only available to registered SS3 students in NECO-accredited schools.
