If you’re graduating this year or next, NYSC registration is one of those things you want to understand before your convocation, not after. The process has a few steps, and missing any one of them can cause delays that push you to the next batch. Here’s a clear walk-through of how to apply for NYSC online in 2026.
What Is NYSC?
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a one-year mandatory service programme for Nigerian graduates under 30 years of age who attended Nigerian or accredited foreign universities. It consists of three weeks of orientation camp followed by nine months of primary assignment and community development service in a state other than your state of origin. Mobilization happens in three main batches annually — Stream I (typically around January–March), Stream II (around May–July), and Stream III (around September–November).
Who Is Eligible for NYSC 2026?
You are eligible if: you graduated from an accredited Nigerian university or polytechnic, you’re under 30 years of age at the time of graduation, and your institution has uploaded your name to the NYSC portal as part of your institution’s mobilization list. If you graduated from a foreign university, your institution must be recognized by NYSC and your certificate must be verified. Postgraduate students who already served at the undergraduate level are exempt.
Documents Required for NYSC Registration
Before you begin online registration, gather the following: your original degree/HND certificate or a statement of result issued by your university, your university transcript (may be needed for verification), a clear passport photograph (white background, formal attire), a valid means of identification (National ID, voter’s card, or NIN slip), your bank account number for the NYSC monthly allowance (must be a Nigerian bank — most corps members open a new account), and your Local Government Area certificate of origin. Foreign graduates also need notarized copies of their certificates and a NYSC-approved verification letter from their institution.
Step-by-Step NYSC Online Registration Process
Step 1 — Wait for your institution’s notification: Your university’s NYSC liaison office will inform graduates when institutional mobilization lists have been submitted to NYSC. Do not attempt to register before your name is on the NYSC system — the portal will reject you.
Step 2 — Visit the NYSC portal: Go to portal.nysc.org.ng. This is the official registration portal. Be cautious of third-party sites that look similar — the NYSC does not have authorized third-party registration agents.
Step 3 — Create an account: Click “Register Now” and provide your email address. Create a strong password and note your login details securely. You’ll receive a confirmation email — verify your email before proceeding.
Step 4 — Fill in your personal details: Enter your full legal name exactly as it appears on your certificate, your date of birth, your state of origin and local government, your phone number, your bank details, and your emergency contact information.
Step 5 — Upload your documents: Upload your passport photograph, certificate or statement of result, and any other required documents in the specified format and file size. Low-quality or incorrectly formatted uploads are a common source of rejection — follow the portal’s specifications carefully.
Step 6 — Select your batch and print your call-up letter: Once your details are verified and approved, you’ll be assigned to a mobilization batch and state. You can print your call-up letter and other registration documents at this stage.
Step 7 — Prepare for camp: Your call-up letter specifies your orientation camp location and report date. Camp typically runs for 21 days.
Can You Choose Your State of Deployment?
No — NYSC allocates states automatically. You are posted to a state other than your state of origin and (usually) different from where you attended university. You can apply for a redeployment after camp in exceptional circumstances (health reasons, marriage, spousal location, etc.) but redeployments are not guaranteed and must be applied for through the NYSC secretariat with supporting documentation.
NYSC Monthly Allowance 2026
